The human behind
Mindful Kookaburra
I’m Evan Shapiro, a storyteller, designer, and meditation teacher who believes mindfulness can be both transformative and deeply human.
After nearly two decades of personal practice and formal teacher training at Three Jewels in New York, I’ve learned that meditation is not about escaping life but about being fully present within it. It helps us meet each moment with awareness, compassion, and creativity.
My professional life has always centred on communication and design. I’ve built brands, produced podcasts, designed experiences, and helped organisations bring ideas to life with clarity and purpose. Mindful Kookaburra is where these skills come together, blending design thinking, emotional intelligence, and contemplative practice.
Through courses, talks, and workplace programs, I help people reconnect with focus and resilience. Whether working with individuals or teams, my goal is to make mindfulness accessible, practical, and genuinely uplifting for both personal growth and organisational wellbeing.
Why the Kookaburra
The kookaburra felt like the right symbol for this project because it embodies a balance of wisdom, joy and presence. Known for its unmistakable laugh, the kookaburra reminds us not to take life too seriously and to return again and again to the simple joy of being alive. Its call is a sound of the Australian bush, grounding us in connection with nature and the rhythms of the world around us. In Mindful Kookaburra, this spirit becomes a metaphor for mindfulness itself: awake to the moment, curious and playful, yet deeply rooted in awareness. The kookaburra invites us to meet our inner life with the same light-hearted clarity, to listen, to laugh and to remember our connection to life as it unfolds. A connection shaped and filtered through our human tools of perception. A perception that can be altered by awareness of what often goes unnoticed.
